Cyprus Invests €10 Million in a Fast-Charging Network
Cyprus plans to install 94 new fast-charging ports for electric vehicles at a total cost of €10 million. Cyprus Mail reported on October 23 that the network will be developed in stages through 2028, covering not only the largest cities but also important locations across the national road network. For the property market, this is another sign of systematic infrastructure modernisation on the island.
What will be built
The plan includes 76 ports for light vehicles and 18 for heavy vehicles. Charging areas will be created in Nicosia, Larnaca and Limassol, as well as Alambra, Kofinou, Evrychou, Saittas, Mandria, Polis Chrysochous and Paralimni. The first 16 new light-vehicle ports are scheduled for installation in 2026. The main phase is planned for 2027, with the remaining facilities due in 2028.
The new light-vehicle stations will offer 150 kW charging. Heavy-vehicle ports will provide 200 kW and 350 kW capacity. This means the programme is not a symbolic network expansion, but practical infrastructure designed to support faster travel between cities and regions.
Why it matters for property
Charging access is gradually becoming part of everyday infrastructure, alongside roads, parking and public transport. In new residential developments, charging solutions already affect convenience, modern appeal and attractiveness to European buyers. Private charging points in homes and commercial properties may also use electricity generated by photovoltaic systems.
Coverage outside the main urban centres is particularly important. Better mobility can support tourism areas, suburban housing and projects close to major roads. Current Cyprus properties and investment opportunities should therefore be assessed not only by price, but also by the future infrastructure surrounding each project.
Conclusion for investors
Cyprus already has 384 publicly accessible charging ports at 221 stations. Adding another 94 fast-charging ports will improve connectivity and create an extra advantage for modern developments. For investors, the practical signal is clear: properties with parking, charging infrastructure and good access to major roads will be better aligned with the expectations of the next generation of buyers and tenants.
